The question I’m most often asked is, what I do if I’ve been in a car wreck in South Carolina, and it’s not my fault?

First, make sure everybody gets to safety, including the cars. Next, call 911 and get immediate medical attention. Get the other driver’s personal and insurance information, the name, telephone number and address, and do the same for all of the witnesses, they’re very important. Take photos, with your cell phone, of the scene and the injuries, and of the cars involved in the wreck. Contact your insurance company and the other driver’s insurance company. If you have health insurance, make sure all your medical providers file with your health insurance.

Go to traffic court. This way you get to share your story, on the record, and you get to make sure that the other driver is charged at fault. You might be thinking that you need a lawyer immediately, and that may not be the case. If your car is not badly damaged, and if you’re not hurt, you may be able to handle the case yourself. In that event, call us, get our book on how to settle your own case, and it’ll guide you through the process.

If you’re injured, then I suggest that you contact someone who only does injury law, and knows how to handle these types of cases. Our initial consultation is free, we will meet with you and, openly and honestly, assess your case and tell you where we think you stand, and what we think you have to do going forward. And you don’t have to hire us. You get to decide, period.
